AmeriCorps National Service


The Vermont Youth Development Corps AmeriCorps State Program (VYDC) places full-time and part-time members across VT to implement diverse youth initiatives, fostering positive development and building resilience to help youth avoid opioid misuse and other unhealthy behaviors, transcend the effects of COVID-19, and gain academic, social, and job skills needed to thrive.

VYDC AmeriCorps members plan and implement programs for youth, such as, community service; civic engagement; mentoring; sports and recreation; science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM); literacy and writing; job skills and internships; and gardening and environmental stewardship.

More about serving as a VYDC AmeriCorps member

VYDC AmeriCorps service is fulltime or part-time and can span from a summer to a full year. AmeriCorps members receive a living allowance and an education award that can be used for existing qualified student loans or for future costs of attending a qualified school. VYDC AmeriCorps while gaining professional skills and experience, while helping communities embrace and value targeted, results-driven investment in initiatives designed to build resilience and thrive.

Members engage directly with youth to implement a variety of activities that foster positive youth development and build resilience which helps youth avoid opioid abuse and

 

Some of the ways that VYDC members make a difference:

  • Provide ways for youth to connect to the community.

  • Help youth engage in sport, recreation, and the outdoors.

  • Facilitate substance use prevention initiatives.

  • Develop job skills and internship opportunities.

  • Promote food security, gardening, and environmental stewardship.

  • Build interest in science, technology, and other academics.

  • Teach, tutor, and mentor youth.

  • Develop curricula and resources to support programs (STEM, academics, health, physical activity, civic engagement, and the arts).

  • Oversee social media and community outreach.

  • Manage volunteers and seek resources to sustain programs.
